Pelam Foods Ltd was founded in 1989 as an Export company to develop
sales of our own brands and also to assist various UK companies in
exporting Food and Drink products. We started in a very small way and
all documentation was done either on computer with a simple program I
wrote myself for the invoicing and the Customs documentation was
completed manually.

As time moved on sales increased to over £1m by late 1996 and the
"paperwork" side was taking over the business and was in danger of
stifling growth. We had grown through giving prompt efficient service
and delays in paperwork could not be tolerated.

At this time we looked around for a software package to help us continue
to grow the company. Having seen SPEX and others in action with my
previous employment I knew these were no good for me. I had visits from
people eager to write me a bespoke system and finally Export Pro. At
last this was an export documentation package that was written by an
exporter. The presentation showed me that the computer would simply
computerise what I was doing manually. So many othersystems are written
by computer people and exporters have to fit into them!

It was an easy decision to buy Export Pro and immediately we could see
benefits. The workload was vastly reduced even allowing for setting up
databases which was simple even for a computer novice like me.

We installed in May 1997 and since then, with a free hand to "do
business" and not have to worry about the "paperwork" we have moved from
strength to strength. Sales have almost tripled in the 3 years since we
installed Export Pro and I believe we can double them again before the
workload reaches what it was in 1997 before the system. In addition
there is the knowledge that all the documentation is accurate and
reporting facilities make life so much easier in keeping abreast of what
is happening in the business.
